Phasmophobia's Apocalypse Update launches on Tuesday, 27th September, at 12pm British Spooky Time. You can get a good look at all three of those (or at least as good a look as the perpetual murk and barely adequate torchlight will allow) in the trailer above.Įlsewhere, the Apocalypse Update adds Phasmophobia's long-awaited Custom Difficulty options, equipment load outs, a new main menu and lobby room, a new shop, ghost adjustments, ID cards, collectables, a new fuse box, new interactables, a new report system, player stats, new sounds, and more. Phasmophobia - Apocalypse Update Trailer. Not only is a smaller Sunny Meadows variant known as 'Restricted' included - offering "5 small maps in 1" - it also adds Camp Woodwind, a miniature variant of the Maple Lodge Campsite map. For example: - green means 'ended' - yelow means 'in progress' - etc. There's a lot going on in Phasmophobia's Apocalypse Update, starting with the arrival of the new Sunny Meadows Mental Institution map - an entirely reworked, more visually interesting, and, crucially, more compact version of the game's previously released Asylum map.Ī recent poll suggested smaller maps were high on the list of players' wants, and - intentionally or otherwise - the Apocalypse Update seems to be delivering on that front. However Im not able to understand the meaning of the collors from each item on trello dashboard lists. #Phasmophobia roadmap trello Patch#You can find the Trello board here where the developer is making updates.Just days after releasing an updated early access roadmap for Phasmophobia, developer Kinetic Games has announced the ghost hunting sim's next big patch - known as the Apocalypse Update - will be arriving on 27th September. On top of that, they also have the equivalent of Illustrator and InDesign available, and their prices are extremely reasonable. T hey have done a wonderful job on this, IMHO. They have completely revamped the interface and user experience of the product, retaining the stuff that worked and dump ing a whole bunch of stuff that didn’t. It actually does many things better, more conveniently, and certainly more logically than Photoshop ever did. My heroes!Īffinity Photo does everything that Photoshop in CS6 did as far as I can tell, with the notable exception of 3D, which I never used anyway. But then I heard about a wonderful little company in England called Serif, who were building a product called Affinity Photo. I was really mad and frustrated with Adobe, and I remain so to this day. What was I going to do? Pay Adobe’s monthly subscription fee, which initially was truly outrageous? And to top things off, what about users like me who needed Illustrator and InDesign two or three times a year, but didn’t use it all the time? Was I going to have to get a subscription for all of this? It was far beyond my ability to pay, and it still is, as initially they were on an annual subscription paid monthly fee schedule, so occasional users like me were disadvantaged. Affinity pro vs photoshop 64 Bit#At the same time, however, Apple was gradually shifting to 64 bit architecture in all of their computers and software, and by about 2015-2016, CS6 no longer worked on my machine. I was OK for a while, in that I still had a fresh version of Creative Suite 6 that was still working, so I steadfastly refused to sign up. Affinity pro vs photoshop software#In 2013, the fear became a reality, and Adobe stopped issuing standalone software for Photoshop. It was pretty much the only game in town for a long time. I had grown very used to its cumbersome, arcane, buggy, and, at times, inane, user interface. I started using Photoshop when we were still scanning prints, slides, and negatives. Having been a Photoshop user since about 1996, and having spent literally thousands on Adobe software over the years, I had developed a good little side business doing photography and graphics which augmented my work as a musician. When Adobe first announced in 2011 that Photoshop, and all of its Creative Suite applications, would go to cloud-based monthly subscriptions, I was upset, like many users.
Are we in our own “Mouse Utopia” in which Darwinian selection has collapsed? … The results were horrifying: increasingly bizarre behaviour patterns, a collapse in reproduction, eventual extinction. In creating this “Mouse Utopia” the experiment replicated post-industrial conditions in the West, where child mortality has fallen from 40% to about 1% since 1800, due to dramatically improved medicine and living conditions. Its aim was to understand what would happen if Darwinian selection massively weakened. Led by the startlingly creative scientist John B. #Calhoun mouse utopia series#Those who managed to control space led relatively normal lives.”Ĭalhoun’s work didn’t give us answers, but it is rare that any single study or series of studies can draw definite conclusions.Between 19, a fascinating experiment took place at the University of Maryland. “Not all of Calhoun’s rats had gone berserk. Moral decay could arise “not from density, but from excessive social interaction,” Ramsden says. His work suggested a different interpretation. “Calhoun’s research was seen not only as questionable, but also as dangerous.”Īnother researcher, Jonathan Freedman, turned to studying actual people - they were just high school and university students, but definitely human. Ultimately, “ats may suffer from crowding human beings can cope,” Ramdsen says. The NIH Record spoke to medical historian Edmund Ramsden about Calhoun’s work: She writes, “ Instead of a population problem, one could argue that Universe 25 had a fair distribution problem.”īut we can take comfort in the face that humans are not mice. Inglis-Arkell explains that the habitats he created weren’t really overcrowded, but that isolation enabled aggressive mice to stake out territory and isolate the beautiful ones. Now, interpretations of Calhoun’s work have changed. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, which was also made into a 1982 film The Secret of NIMH, notes the National Institutes of Health. The work also inspired the 1971 children’s book Mrs. The work tapped into the era’s feeling of dread that crowded urban areas heralded the risk of moral decay - and events like the murder of Kitty Genovese (though it was misreported) only served to intensify the worry.Ī host of science fiction works - books like Soylent Green , comics like 2000AD - played on Calhoun’s ideas and those of his contemporaries. The unusual behaviors he observed he dubbed “behavioral sinks.”Īfter Calhoun wrote about his findings in a 1962 issue of Scientific American, that term caught on in popular culture, according to a paper published in the Journal of Social History. When the population started declining the beautiful ones were spared from violence and death, but had completely lost touch with social behaviors, including having sex or caring for their young.Ĭalhoun’s experiments, which started with rats an outdoor pen and moved on to mice at the National Institute of Mental Health during the early 1960s, were interpreted at the time as evidence of what could happen in an overpopulated world. The few secluded spaces housed a population Calhoun called, “the beautiful ones.” Generally guarded by one male, the females-and few males-inside the space didn’t breed or fight or do anything but eat and groom and sleep. Sometimes they’d drop and abandon a baby while they were carrying it. They’d move half their litter away from danger and forget the rest. They gathered in the main squares, waiting to be fed and occasionally attacking each other.įew females carried pregnancies to term, and the ones that did seemed to simply forget about their babies. For io9, Esther Inglis-Arkell writes about Calhoun’s twenty-fifth habitat and the experiment that followed:Īt the peak population, most mice spent every living second in the company of hundreds of other mice. Sure, there was some hiss with it, but the tone was unmistakeable. Need to hook up my digital 'scope to the amp outputs and see what it looks like. Lo and behold, about +4 dB gain, I could hear. What was I hearing? Noise? A -120dBFS track? So I made another test track, this time with a -120dBFS 1 kHz 50% square wave. At +4dB, I could hear a fain hiss from the tweeter (with my ear against it). At 0dB, there was nothing, zip, nada, SILENCE. With the DAC3 HGC in calibrated (0dBFS mode), I wound up the volume on the HPA4. So I recorded a -120dBFs noise track in REW, converted it to flac and loaded it into Roon. I got fed up of all the audiophool networking aficianados telling me that I needed audiophile switches and cables because ethernet noise pollutes the DAC output. My definition of a neutral DAC is: the DAC that preserves the most information I know is on the file or tape. My definition of accurate is: the DAC that makes a real piano in a real room sound the most like a real piano in a real room is the most accurate. Not to mention the BM DAC made it sound hard cold and harmonically threadbare. With the Benchmark, the majority of that information (which is definitely on the master file and appears via David’s $100K MSB DAC and via my Holo Spring DAC) disappeared !!! Your neutral DAC “stripped” away information that is unquestionably on the master file. «I use Chesky recording sessions to review headphones because I can compare what I hear live to the sound coming off the so-called “mike feed.” The Border Patrol DAC reproduced the church walls, the reverb, the positions on the floor where the musicians were standing, and all the subtle breathiness of Macy Gray’s voice. This Herb Reichert quote deserves some hot light: You're just saying it looks like a render to try to cast doubt on Benchmark's truthfulness - throwing everything at the wall to see what you can make stick. What this boils down to is what it always boils down to when you decide that a manufacturer or a piece of equipment is about marketing BS and bad engineering - you interpret everything you see and read about that manufacturer or unit in whatever way you have to, no matter how implausible or selective, to reinforce your initial conviction.Īs for how the volume knob looks in the image, that's just silly - the jpg lacks the resolution to know if it's a photo or render, and whether it's a photo or a render is irrelevant and tells us nothing with regard to the argument you're trying to make. If a free-standing, non-rackmount unit is designed to a certain thermal target, then the possibility of less passive ventilation in a rackmount application could quite reasonably lead them to add heatsinks to raise the likelihood that the rackmount application will result in a similar thermal situation. A more plausible assumption IMHO is that Benchmark has a certain thermal target, and then they build in a fair amount of safety buffer to that beyond, so their units can be reasonable assured of running cool and lasting a long time in a variety of use environments, and so they also minimize customer service contacts for hot-running units. In addition to misreading my comment, you're also making a suspect assumption that Benchmark adds heat sinks to the sides of the rackmount version because if they didn't, the unit would overheat. I don't know where you're getting the idea that it's about the addition of the panel - that's not what I wrote, which is clear as day in my prior comment: a rackmount installation brings the possibility of no/minimal ventilation ABOVE AND BELOW the unit, as when someone has a stack of units in a rack with no gaps/blank panel spaces above or below. |
